I used this on a large deck and ramps and stairs on the back and a smaller deck and ramps and steps up front. When I first stained the deck I used Thompson. That stuff lasted about a year when it started peeling. Last year I used this timber oil stuff but only did 1 coat. That 1 coat had faded away. This year I did 2 coats. The wood still soaked up and 1 Th coat. But the 2 coat I think was better and it gave the deck more of a shine / a darker rich color and it’s standing up to the foot traffi...

Penetrating vs surface layer
It was easy to apply. We sanded off 70 years of old coatings down to the bare wood. The logs look great after applying two coats. We will know how protective it is after a couple of years.

Do not depend upon Lowe’s Customer Service
I was going to purchase these things along with an exterior door. I wanted to have them delivered. You were going to charge me $69 delivery charge for each item. No way. I picked the stuff up myself and saved $140. Getting the door was a trial. Ended up calling customer service which is in New Mexico. They transferred my call to Billings, so I could ask about installation. That took 5 days for a reply. The reply was from some service company in Boise Idaho. What cluster.
