no 14 is thicker

Was this Answer Helpful ?NO! Just the opposite. The lower the gage, the more current it can handle. I just bought a 12 gage extension cord for my portable room roll around Air Conditioner. The old cord was 14 gage and heating up. I don't like to pick up an extension cord and feel heat. This new one is perfectly cool. As for YOUR situation, it would be best to consult with an expert. It depends on the voltage, (that's the wall current) which for this cord is 110-115V. It depends on the amps also because this still might not be thick enough to handle a window unit without over heating and starting a wall fire. Window units pull more current than portables. You might be better off calling an electrician and adding a wall outlet closer to the unit. It will run better and save you money on electricity.
