No, not in most cases. The bracket needs to be screwed to the truss/joist. A better solution may be the 936, old work RETRO-BRACE assembly.

No. Get a support designed for your purpose. U want one that u can poke up through the hole for the electrical/mounting box and screw out against the ceiling jousts. Then u can install the box and good to go.

This particular model you need access to the area above the fan. They make a model that can be used with limited access. This one isn't it.

A box that is described as "new work" cannot easily be installed if you have existing drywall. Buy a fan box for "old work". It will have a threaded rod that allows you to expand the braces without removing drywall.
