No, because of the way the circulation valve works.
Was this Answer Helpful ?You can install the pump on the cold side but it will not circulate hot water.
Was this Answer Helpful ?The fittings on it allows for it to be placed on the hot side where it would pump water from the heater into the rest of the house. If installing on the cold side you would want to install up-side-down, needing more fittings to change genders. Allowing it to push cold water into the heater and though the system.
Was this Answer Helpful ?Not if you want it to work correctly. You want it on the hot side because it "pulls" the hot water out from the hot water at the top of the tank. If you put it upside down on the cold side, it will be "pushing" down a 3/4" tube that goes to the bottom of the tank and the head pressure of 40 gallons (typically) against the pump would most likely burn the pump up in no time.

Was this Answer Helpful ?NO, it must push hot water to the control valve which you install at the most remote sink or appliance. Although theoretically you could force water backward through the system it would draw colder water from the bottom of the water heater and be heating the cold water line.
