Will it work with a gas tankless water heater?

As I said 9 months ago, you can but it has to be connected to a hot water storage tank with a series of check valves to prevent the flow sensor from staying on when the circulation pump is running. As for the Rinnai manuals that come with the tankless heaters, they have diagrams to show you how this has to be done. I'm not sure why someone would give a negative mark to the last time I answered this very question unless they cannot understand simple instructions. The people that nswered this same question saying you cannot use a circulation pump with a tankless system obviously do not know what they are talking about and should not be doing plumbing of any kind.

NO.

Yes but you have to connect a storage tank, check valves, etc. The manual that comes with your tankless heater has instructions and diagrams for connecting a circulation system. At least the Rinnai manuals do. You should always have a licensed plumber like me do it or you can void warranties if you damage anything.

No. There is not adequate flow to cause most tankless heaters to ignite.

The answers given are not really helpful. It depends on the tankless model being used. Tankless water heaters require a minimum flow of water through the heater to activate. So logic says that as long as the flow rate is there, the heater will activate and send hot water your way. I would think it best to not allow the pump to run without using the timer as this would allow the heater to run continuously thus wasting alot of gas. I will be installing a circ system on a tankless Rinnai R85 today. I am hoping to get positive results.

All tankless water heater manufacturers don't recommend using a circ pump. There's just no need and would be a waste of $$.

This device is an in-line device, and not exactly a component of the water heater. Therefore, it is the "hot water line" that will determine whether the device will work. I can say it will work with standard 3/4" lines.

No this will not work with a tankless water heater. The tankless water heater only heats water when you open a faucet, etc. So there is no hot water available to be circulated by the pump.
