Can you use trex as the decking on a boat dock?

Hi Leslie, thank you for reaching out to us today! Great question, yes Trex can be used for docks in intermittent contact with water and we recommend gapping the boards at 3/8" (10 mm) width-to-width to allow for increased drainage and to use stainless steel fasteners (Universal Hidden Fasteners use a stainless steel screw that can be used in pool/dock applications). Additionally, if the dock will come into sufficient contact with gasoline, it is recommend that the dock is grounded. If you are installing a floating dock, the boards must be installed onto a stable substructure where the framing members will not move relative to each other and relative to the deck boards over time. In addition, Trex is not meant to be used in direct contact with water for extended periods of time. With carefully thought-out design and installation, it is possible to design a floating dock that meets these requirements. We hope this helps and please give us a call at 1-800-289-8739 if you have any additional questions. Have a great day! -Trex Customer Care
