is there a way to measure the opening and make sure it is correct


With out a bench mark or reference to compare to there is no way to check the opening.

That was the same problem I had with the 46-lb model, so I returned it and the one I got in exchange was like night and day. I guess sometimes you can end up with a substandard model. If you can get one that works, it will be worth it.

This spreader was calibrated at the factory and should not need calibration. You can verify your spreader opening. At a spreader setting of 4 a 9/32" drill bit should fit snuggly in the lower left corner of the opening. Feel free to contact us for additional information.
