can this be used for spreading salt in winter?

Easily! I didn't think of using it for this purpose but will definitely keep it in mind as the ice and snow comes. Seeing how the wheels gripped well for me on cold, wet grass I suspect they'll do rather well on snow, perhaps even ice. However, if needed, since the wheels are plastic and if better grip is needed on ice, I'd probably nail some brads into the wheels for traction. The larger broadcast spreader, which I bought, could cover quite a bit of ground/side walk/driveway with a single load.
Was this Answer Helpful ?It can probably used to spread salt as long as the crystal size is smaller enough to flow from the hopper. The all plastic construction will not rust.
Was this Answer Helpful ?We do not recommend using the Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Deluxe to spread salt. It tends to be too heavy for the design of the spreader and is very corrosive. Using salt in any of our push spreaders will void the warranty.
