Can we use this as snow salt spreader as well

Regarding the answer from Scotts, their own product description says it is good for salt. Which is it?
Was this Answer Helpful ?The smaller ice melt particles are smaller and lighter than coarse salt so they should spread easier but wash and spray lube on any and all metal parts after use to keep rust down. My 1960’s all steel, handed down model still works just fine year round in Michigan.
Was this Answer Helpful ?yes you can be sure to clean it well to prevent corrosion.
Was this Answer Helpful ?Not real sure about the answer to this. Where I live, we don't have that much need for salt, so I'm not sure how large the granules are. If they are about the size of fertilizer, then I would think it would work fine.
Was this Answer Helpful ?No... the wheels just slide over the ground so the spreading mechanism won't work.
Was this Answer Helpful ?You can use this spreader for coarse materials. However, since salt is corrosive I would spray wd40 on any metal parts first to protect it and be sure to wash it off thoroughly after use.
Was this Answer Helpful ?No no no...The salt will wreck the plastic parts
Was this Answer Helpful ?Actually, that's a great thought. I don't see why you could not. You would need to open the chute to a wider setting to account for the large salt granules. Other than that, it should work. It's almost all plastic, so nothing to corrode. I might still be inclined to rinse it after each use. PS - I am assuming you are using the term salt generically, and you actually mean a manufactured snow melt product with smaller, more uniform granules. Rock salt would be a challenge because of the size and shape of the crystals.
Was this Answer Helpful ?I haven't tried that but it does open up on the bottom pretty far at the higher settings. I don't see why this wouldn't spread salt. It would definitely do the smaller ice melting products.
Was this Answer Helpful ?Absolutley. I use mine for this every winter. Saves a lot of time and does a great job.
