must I clear all the weeds in the area first?

With any seed you are planning to plant, you need to get rid ot the weeds first. Weeds starve new seed of water and other nutrients and will not allow them to grow. Make sure you drop dirt over the seed and water it at least every two days.

Was this Answer Helpful ?As far as I understand, you don't want to kill any weeds before sowing seeds because the you will be making it harder to germinate the grass seed. I read that you should wait. Til you are able to mow the grass 4-6 times before putting any weed killer

Was this Answer Helpful ?If you don't mind weeds in your grass, then don't pull em. This will not control weeds in any way, and may likely spur weed growth thanks to the fertilizer.
