Can clear polyurethane be use on water painted surface?


Hello. Good question. Only our water-based Polycrylic polyurethane protective finish is recommended to be applied over paint. It is best to allow the paint to fully cure, not just be dry to the touch. Also, the paint needs to be sanded with 220 grit sand paper and the dust needs to be removed completely before application. Finally, there is a small chance that it will yellow over light or white paint. Sincerely, Minwax Customer Support
