can I use this to add on to an existing cable


No this is not the right connector. You need a coax wall plate with adapter and compression F-Connectors. You will need the tools to install the F-connectors. Lastly you can use a piece of pre-made coax to go from the wall to the tv or you could make this cable yourself. Your local Lowes store can show you exactly what you need.

You will need 2 of these connectors and 1 barrel to connect to the existing line or you can buy a F barrel and a pre made cable at the appropriate length.
