Why does it have a battery if the switch is hard wired?


Ah, well it turns out that the switch is not hard wired. During installation you remove the old switch and cap the wires in the wall. This wall switch is wireless and powered completely by the battery.

Hello Aaron, this remote wall switch requires batteries and is also wired. The batteries power the wireless functions, which include speed control, individual on/off settings for the light and fan, dimming, and reversing (if applicable).
