Can a ceiling fan be hung from this box? What weight will it hold?


This box is not rated to support a ceiling fan however we offer a wide variety of steel ceiling fan boxes. Model #296 is 1-1/2 in. deep, is designed to be used in new construction applications and can support a ceiling fan of 70 lbs. Model #294 can be used in either new or existing construction, it mounts directly to the side of a joist, is 2-1/8 inches deep and can support a ceiling fan of 70 lbs. We also offer model #936 which features a brace that fits between two joists, it can be used in new or existing construction, is 1-1/2 inches deep and can support a ceiling fan of 35 lbs when extended to 24 inches and 70 lbs when extended to 16 inches.
