Is the shade the same on either side? Also what is the wand made out of?

The shade is the same on both sides and the mechanism is easily reversible for situations just like yours. Just follow the written instructions on how to do this. I did this with mine and it looks and works great. Very easy. That allows you to mount it anywhere without having to have two as you're worried about.

The front and the back of the fabric is the same insofar as the UV protection - one side may be a bit 'shinier' than the other. The wand is metal with plastic and it mounts on whichever side you put the crank bracket.

You are mentioning Shades, are you referring to Roll-up shades or mini blinds. ? The Roll-up shades that I purchased didn't come with a "wand", just the cords to pull it up or down. The shade is the same on both sides. The shades can be trimmed, I trimmed mine 4 inches on both ends, left and right to fit my window. Measure your window opening. If the shade is too wide, and you want shade to fit perfect, Measure the center of the shade and the center of the opening, your choice if you want the shades to overlap some, and measure how much you have to cut off. I used a scissors to cut measuring on both ends of the shades and drew a line the entire height of the shade. To cut the thicker top and bottom frame I used a fine tooth hacksaw . Mine came out perfect. Good luck.
