Cut Through Almost Anything With Reciprocating Saw Blades

If you’ve done remodeling projects or demolition work, you know how valuable a reciprocating saw can be. But the saw is only as good as its cutting blades, so getting the best reciprocating saw blades (which are sometimes referred to as Sawzall blades because of their original brand name) for your task is important. You can use metal reciprocating saw blades to cut different things, depending on the material that composes the blade and the number of teeth.

Reciprocating saws are hand saws that use battery power to move the blade so you don’t need to perform that repetitive motion as you would with a manual saw. You can use reciprocating saws for many project types — including demolition work, cutting through drywall to install fixtures, cleaving metal and pipe, and cutting lumber and tree branches.

Reciprocating saw blades and other attachments all have a standardized shank to fit various reciprocating saws. Many blades for reciprocating saws are flexible to keep them from breaking. Longer, thicker blades — with roughly six to 11 teeth per inch (TPI) — are ideal for demolition projects, as they can cut through wood with nails in it, such as roof decking. Shorter, carbide blades are best for producing clean cuts on metals, including stainless steel.

Diamond- or carbide-grit blades have specialized designs for cutting materials like tile, cast iron, plaster, marble and fiberglass. You can find bimetal DEWALT reciprocating saw blades in single packs or multi-blade sets. Bimetal blades combine high-speed steel teeth with a carbon-steel body for flexibility.
