What’s a flat top grill and how is it different from a traditional gas grill?

A flat top grill is a gas-powered griddle with a solid, flat cooking surface instead of open grates. It distributes heat evenly, prevents food from falling through, handles everything from smash burgers to veggies and pancakes, and often includes multiple burners, grease management and side shelves.

Are flat top grills good for outdoor cooking year-round?

Flat top grills are great for year-round outdoor cooking because the solid surface shields food from flare-ups and wind. For best results, choose a model with a heavy-duty steel or cast iron top, a fitted lid or cover, durable wheels, and a rust-resistant frame to handle changing weather.

What size flat top grill do I need for my patio or backyard?

The right flat top grill size depends on your space and how many people you cook for. A two-burner grill with a 300- to 400-square inch surface is suitable for a small patio or a family of two to four people. For larger patios or frequent entertaining, consider four-burner models with 600 square inches or more of cooking area.

How do I clean a flat top grill after cooking?

To clean a flat top grill, let the surface cool slightly, scrape food debris toward the grease trap with a grill scraper, pour a little warm water on stuck spots, and then wipe with a grill-safe pad. Dry the surface and apply a thin coat of high-heat cooking oil to prevent rust.
