The Perfect Finish for Drywall

With new drywall in place, it is time to finish the job with drywall compound. Also called joint compound or drywall mud, this material fills the cracks between drywall sheets to provide a uniform look. This isn’t to be confused with spackle, which is better suited to fill holes and dings in the drywall itself.

Mudding is available in different weights. Use heavyweight joint compound first, as it’s denser and will fill the cracks better than lighter drywall paste. Lightweight drywall compound is intended for the finish coat. Once the joint compound is dry and sanded, and the drywall is clear of dust, your project is ready for paint.
