What size chain link fence do I need for a backyard?

The best size chain link fence for a backyard depends on use. For pets or kids, 4- to 6-foot-high panels with 2-3/8-inch posts and 11- or 9-gauge wire provide good security. For privacy or pool areas, choose 6-foot height, heavier gauge mesh and compatible gates.

How do you install a chain link fence on uneven ground?

To install a chain link fence on uneven ground, step the fence instead of angling it. Set posts plumb at consistent spacing, adjust post heights to follow the slope, then stretch the fabric level between posts and trim at the bottom. Use tension bands and brace bands to keep the mesh tight.

What gauge chain link fence is best for dogs?

The best chain link fence gauge for dogs is typically 11 or 9 gauge, as thicker wire resists bending and chewing. Pair it with a 4- to 6-foot height, strong corner and end posts, tight bottom tension wire and secure latches to prevent digging or pushing under the fabric.

What is the difference between galvanized and vinyl-coated chain link fencing?

The main difference is the finish. Galvanized chain link fencing uses a zinc coating for corrosion resistance and a silver look, while vinyl-coated chain link adds a colored PVC layer over galvanized wire, improving rust protection, softening edges and blending better with landscaping.
