Valspar Neutral Base Solid Exterior Wood Stain and Sealer in One ( 1-gallon )

Excellent

Valspar is great. I had my deck professionally stained about a year ago, but a lot of it flaked off. I guess the contractor didn't prep the wood properly. (He used Behr.) I didn't have the color code so I peeled off a sample and took it to Lowes. They scanned the sample with some kind of light which created a code and tinted the Valspar. The match was perfect. I mean dead-on. Went on smooth and covered beautifully, dried in about 8 hours on a warm day - 72ºf.

I think deck cleaner is a must.

I used a deck cleaner (for wood) and rinsed with water, waited 2 days, then used stain on faded wood deck. came out looking great. highly reccomend!!!

Use it on unpainted wood

We've used 10 gallons of it on an old home that had not received paint in many decades. Yes, it was sucked into the wood, but not nearly as badly as expected. Cedar shingles and siding absorb more than pine and spruce. I am a believer in pigmented stain but can only use it where there is virtually no paint remaining. I know there will be no flaking, chipping or chalking in future years.

Worked great with an oil base paint brush.

I had previously used this for my fence. I bought another gallon to touch fence. I was very pleased both times. Match was also perfectly matched.

Love Valspar don't love the name changed

The color closely matches what I was looking for. I cannot find the number to the original stain color. It was called "Lincoln's Cottege Black. It irritates me that Valspar changes the name but not the number and now that Lowe's has changed how we access our information I lost all of my paint and stain colors from years ago.

Listen to advice from Lowes staff.

Did not work for me. Hoped to use solid Simple Cedar color to enhance Cedar Naturaltone semi-transparent stain, but colors were different.

Good product for the price

I like the stain coats very evenly with a lot less effort than others I have used.

Excellent product

Easy to apply. Drive quickly enough in case of rain it's not set of course but it's dry enough not to get damaged and cleans up easily. Been using Valspar staying for years and very happy with it.

Buyer beware.

When I called to request a return, the associate told me that the only way to return or refund the item is to drive to a Lowe's location, as my closest store is a three hour round trip. They said I couldn't process a return by phone or mail, nor get a refund for the incorrect product sent. Buyer beware.
