I used this product to construct flag poles for my truck (I had some nerve-wracking experiences with thinner metal). It has worked really well so far and my concerns are eliminated.

A bit nicer looking than the threaded black pipe
This is similar to threaded black pipe but a little cheaper and a better exterior finish. The trick is getting a square end. I used a benchtop cut-off saw and a Dremel grinding stone to clean the burs. I used the cast iron plugs (also at Lowes) to give a finished look. Looks great.
