There's no need anymore for northern gardeners to envy the South for it arbors and pergolas covered in romantic blooming, vining wisteria. Summer Cascade Wisteria is a new variety that does well all the way up through zone 4. It's an excellent performer, too. Blooming up to 3 times a year in gorgeous pastels, the flowers are a beautiful lavender blue borne in foot long recemes. Their perfume turns heady in the afternoon sun. One thing you need to be aware of is where you plant Summer Cascade. It has heavy, woody vines and will need a big, strong structure on which to grow. It is often mistaken for an invasive cultivar because of its vigorous growing habit, but this is a native, non invasive variety.
