Treating the surface with Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner helps prevent streaks and blotches by evening out the absorption of oil-based stains
Use on any wood but is especially necessary when working with soft or porous woods like pine, alder, birch, and maple
Penetrates the grain of the wood to promote uniform acceptance of oil-based stains
Coats - normally 1, but additional coats may be applied on highly absorbent woods
Cleanup - mineral spirits or paint thinner, following manufacturer’s safety instructions

Worst product ever even following directions.

I’ve used pre-stain conditioners before but never have I had such bad reactions as with this product. I decided to use it on an oak table top to maximize my chance of an even stain coating. The product says it should definitely be used on soft and small grain woods BUT is suitable for ALL woods. I sanded, cleaned and prepped as directed. Wiped on coating and let it sit for maybe 7-8 minutes within the 5-15 minute set time. Then wiped off excess as directed. After another 15 minutes began to ...
