Kobalt 3 -Piece Assorted x 3-1/2-in Woodboring Plug cutters Drill Bit Set

Not very effective

They just don’t work as well as advertised

Hard wood friendly

Works well on hard woods

Worked well, but durability may be in question

I may have misused them to help remove screws from decking. They worked great to prevent walking across the surface until it got hot and dulled a bit. I would use again, but likely buy multiple bits of the same size instead of the 3 different sizes.

Plug cutters

These plug cutters worked great. They cut clean plugs. I would buy them again.

Extra time & effort required to get clean plugs

Maybe it was because I was using soft pine but every plug was split at the ends. To get usable plugs, I had to cut much deeper and then trim the ends to have clean plugs.

Waste of money, time, gas & effort

Unless you're only cutting one plug for each bit, spend the money and get a real cutter. These wouldn't make it through a hobby craft piece much less serious work. I only tried them on soft Pine and they were an epic fail. I wouldn't waste a nice piece of hardwood with these. Pros: The plug lesser diameter is fine +1/32 on the 5/16 and +1/64 on the 3/8 & 1/2. I can live with that. The kerf is 1/4" which is marginally acceptable but not ideal. Cons: Dull cutters on all three bits after one ...

Exposing recessed screws in deck boards. Works ok.

I used these cutters to expose the screw heads on decking. They worked ok, but dull quickly.

Shredded my oak

I've had multiple plug cutters and these are not very sharp, take too thick of a swath compared to equally priced cutters. The only wood I've tried it on is oak.

Beyond dull, shredded the wood.

Was attempting to use these for a project made out of pine. It absolutely shredded the wood and made it extremely difficult to get useable plugs. Might work better on a harder wood.
