Needed to use old gasket
Like many others, I also could not compress the gasket enough to get the flush valve to rotate into position. As suggested by others, I also tried using butter, yes butter, to lubricate and that did not help. I finally used the old, previously compressed gasket, and the valve went in smoothly. It now works like a charm!

Gasket too thick or firm to compress.
Is there a trick to making the gasket pliable enough to compress? I gave up and reused the old gasket which had taken shape from 20 years in place. I hope it holds.

Perfect fit replacement
Perfect fit replacement. Requires a bit of pressure pushing down while rotating to get it locked, but overall not too difficult.

I just got it today. I struggled getting it on. Here's what I did. I removed gasket, it still would not go on without the gasket on either, I used the side of a file to take it down the plastic below where it had left marks on the inside, I put it on again, it still went on hard without the gasket, so I repeated 2 more times filing it down, once it went on easy i put the gasket on and it went on easily. Plummers probably use a tool and force it on, fyi...

Tough install!
Very hard to twist the tube into place! I also had to file the ears down to get it to seat. Should be redesigned for easier placement.
