This product is wonderful. It takes 3 normal AA batteries. The battery compartment closes securely. The built in timer is just what I needed! Turn it on once and it automatically turns off after 6-8 hours …THEN automatically comes on every night at that same time. The colors are bright. The same batteries lasted all Christmas season.
