Money tree (Pachira aquatica) is a tropical houseplant from southern Mexico to Brazil and Bolivia that arrives to you with an intricate, braided trunk and hand-shaped green leaves. Also known as Malabar chestnut, Mexican fortune tree, or Saba nut. While it cannot produce currency, the money tree is said to bring good luck and positive energy to its human parent, and it looks positively lush, intriguing, and modern as part of your home décor. It is a popular plant for Chinese New Year decorating, celebrations, and gift giving because it is thought to bring good luck and prosperity in the year to come. And three big bonuses, to borrow a money-related phrase: money tree is easy to grow, easy to care for, and indoor-friendly. You will receive one money tree plant with a braided trunk and rooted in a 4.25-inch pot. Native to freshwater wetlands and seasonally flooded forests, among other watery locales, money tree appreciates ambient humidity. If your home is on the dry side, you can use a humidifier or a pebble tray to better replicate its humid native environs. If permitted, Pachira aquatica can grow to around 6 feet tall as a houseplant. Provide bright, indirect light. Water thoroughly when the top couple of inches of soil are dry. Investing in a moisture meter can be helpful. Less water in winter months. Feed once a month in spring and summer with a well-balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Rarely flowers as a houseplant.
