How to Install a Washer-Dryer Pedestal

For a Washing Machine: 

• Make sure all laundry is removed from the bin.
• Turn off the cold and hot water faucets.
• Unplug the power cord to the machine.
• Unhook the water hoses from the faucets and the back of the machine. Do this step slowly to make sure water doesn’t spill out. You can use a towel to catch any excess water from the hose ends. Let the hoses completely drain into the bucket.Move the washer away from the wall so you have more room to work.

• Make sure all laundry is removed from the bin.
• Unplug the power cord. If you don’t understand how to do this safely or aren’t familiar with the safety precautions recommended by the manufacturer, seek help from a professional.
• Carefully move the dryer away from the wall so you can access the exhaust vent. Loosen the vent clamp and disconnect the vent hose from the dryer. This is also a good time to clean the dryer vent.

• Next you will need to determine how to lift the washing machine onto the pedestal — or dryer, depending on where you are in the installation process. In most cases, the best technique is to tip the machine on its side to see where the bolts and fasteners will attach to the top of the pedestal. However, this may vary according to your machine. Check the instruction manual for details and for a fastener configuration diagram, and be sure to enlist a helper for this step.
• Once you understand how to install the fasteners, attach the pedestal to the bottom of the machine, hooking it into the mounting brackets as instructed.
• Secure the fasteners. 
• Repeat the process for each machine.

• Install the feet of the pedestal as instructed.
• Next, tip the machine back up upright with the pedestal attached and check for level.
• If you need to adjust one of the feet, have your helper hold up the corner of the machine and adjust as needed. 
• Repeat this process until both the washer and dryer are level.

• Once both machines are level, reconnect the power source as well as any hoses according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
• If your pedestal contains cabinet doors or storage drawers, install those as well.
