Getting Started
These are instructions for sliding shower doors. Steps can vary slightly according to the brand and type that you purchase, so it's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Instructions
First, you'll need to measure the vertical and horizontal openings.
Measure the Vertical Opening (A)
Measure from the top of the shower or bathtub threshold to the top of the tile or the wall surround.
Measure the Horizontal Opening (B)
Measure the width of the opening at the top and bottom of the enclosure.
Measure the Threshold or the Sill (C)
Measure the depth from the front to the back (edge to edge) of the shower or bathtub threshold.
Most sliding shower doors can be opened two different ways. These instructions are applicable for a right to left opening (Drawing A). If you'd like the shower door to open from the left (Drawing B), use the same instructions, but switch around the panels.
Follow these instructions to install the wall tracks.
- Ensure the walls and shower base are level. Place the metal track approximately 22mm (3/4-inch) from the base edge to the center of the metal track. Check to see if the metal track is level. Then use a pencil to mark the holes on the wall.
- Remove the track. Use an 8mm (1/3-inch) ceramic drill bit and drill pilot holes where you've made marks.
- Using a rubber mallet, insert the wall anchors until they're flush with the wall.
- Secure the metal track with screws. Be careful not to overtighten them.
Before you install the wall track, ensure there's a support stud behind the drywall.
Follow these instructions to install the fixed panels.
- Insert the fixed panel's bottom seal strip at the base of the fixed glass panel (A).
- Place the fixed glass panel (A) into the metal track (B).
- Make sure the plastic gasket in the guide is in place. This will protect the fixed glass panel. Then place the guide (in the far left image) for the sliding door onto the base.
- Using a pencil, mark the holes for the sliding door guide. Then drill pilot holes with a 3mm (1/8-inch) drill bit.
- Use screws to secure the sliding door guide and add the decorative ends.
- Now it's time to assemble the hardware at the top of the shower doors that will allow it to slide. Add the stoppers and support bar anchors onto the support bar.
- Using the brackets, loosely add the support bar to the fixed glass panels. Check to ensure it's level. Then mark the outline of the two support bar anchors.
- Remove the support bar. Put the support bar anchors on the wall mark and mark the centers on the wall.
- Using an 8mm drill bit, drill holes for the center marks. Then use a rubber mallet to insert the wall anchors.
- Use screws to fix the center fitting on the support bar anchors.
- Add the roller stoppers and support bar anchors onto the support bar. Attach the support bar to the wall.
- Using the brackets, attach the fixed panel onto the support bar. Use the hex screws and key to secure the support bar on the anchors.
Follow these steps to install the door panels.
- Install the top two rollers onto the door panel. Tighten the bolts with a rachet.
- Add the door seal strip onto the door panel.
- Hang the door panel on the top two rollers on the support bar. Ensure the bottom of the door is inside the guide.
- Use a drill with a 3mm (1/8-inch) bit to secure the panel.
- Use the screws, fittings and caps to secure the wall track.
- Affix the panel seal strips, cutting any extra away so that the rollers easily slide.
- On the closing side, install the vertical seal strip.
- Line up the roller stoppers to prevent the door panels from hitting the walls when you're opening or closing the shower door. Then use an hex key to secure the stoppers.
- Now it's time to install the 2 bottom rollers on the panel. Adjust the rollers so that the door closes properly. Tighten the bolts with a rachet.
- Add the decorative metal track in front of the door panel with silicone. Then slide the end caps on to finish.
Follow these direction to install the handle and seal the perimeter.
- Use a hex key to install the door handle.
- Test the door to ensure that it opens smoothly. It should close tightly between the side of the glass panels and the frame.
- Use a clear silicone to seal around the perimeter of the shower (between the glass panels, the walls and base). Wait 24 hours for the silicone to dry before using the shower.
