Install or Replace a Door Sweep

A door sweep seals gaps between the bottom of the door and the threshold. You'll save money on heating and cooling as well as protect against moisture, dust and insects with a weatherstripping door seal strip in place.

There are two main types of door weatherstripping, depending on the style, material and size of your door.

  1. A U-shaped door seal that slides under aluminum or steel doors
  2. A metal strip that screws, nails or staples to the door bottom

The video covers installing a strip door sweep. Always follow the manufacturer's instruction for installation. The basic steps are simple:

  1. Measure the door width.
  2. If necessary, mark and cut the new door bottom sweep to length.
  3. Drill pilot holes.
  4. Loosely attach with screws.
  5. Tighten the screws to secure.
