Tools and Materials
What is a Resin Shed?
A resin shed is constructed from plastic or synthetic resins. It’s mostly made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to make it tough and sturdy. A prefabricated resin shed kit typically includes like walls, roof and floor sections, door and window parts, hardware, roof materials and floor anchoring hardware.
Pros of a Resin Storage Shed
- Resin sheds are easy to clean.
- They are light enough for easy assembly and offer portability.
- They are durable and weather resistant.
- These are also rot, rust and rodent free.
- Resin sheds are low maintenance as they don’t need to be painted or stained.
- They are affordable and budget-friendly.
Cons of a Resin Storage Shed
- Extremely cold weather can make resin sheds brittle.
- These can start fading if exposed to sunlight for a long period of time.
- They are not fire retardant, meaning they can catch fire easily and melt when in contact with fire.
How to Build a Prefabricated Resin Shed Kit
A resin shed is an ideal addition to any backyard to store tools and create a space for any DIY projects. Building a resin shed from scratch might not be realistic since these are manufactured using specialized techniques.
A more practical solution is to assemble one from a prefabricated resin shed kit. These are available in various sizes and styles to suit all needs and are easy to assemble.
Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions to assemble your resin shed. The steps might be different depending on your specific model.
Prepare the Surface
- Ensure that the ground when you want to construct the shed is level and there are no bumps. Use a standard level to check for flatness.
- To create a concrete surface for your shed, pour a concrete slab bigger than the shed’s base. Let it dry according to the concrete mix instructions.
Unbox the Kit
- Unpack all the components to make the shed and separate them by type. The panels typically come with stamps that tell you where to place them.
- Make sure you have all the components listed in the manufacturer’s instructions.
Assemble Floor Panels
- Join two floor panels as per instructions to make the back section of the floor.
- Then, join two other floor panels to form the middle portion. Connect this to the back section by tilting it at an angle.
- Repeat this process for the front two panels.
- Use screws to anchor the floor to the ground or concrete slab.
Attach Wall Panels
- Attach the first panel at the front of the shed. Start at the front edge of one side.
- Anchor the first panel to the floor panels using plastic screws included in the kit.
- Snap the second wall into place alongside the first panel. Screw it into the floor.
- Repeat this process till you finish the first wall.
- Hold the first wall in place while you install the first corner.
- Use screws to attach the first back panel to the floor panels. Then, use corner locks to stabilize the corner in place.
- To lock the corner in its position, align the corner inserts with the corner holes and pull the lock.
- Repeat this process of attaching the panels together and screwing them onto the floor panels. Add corner locks at each corner.
It might be helpful to have a friend help you hold the wall in place till the first corner is getting installed.
Attach Shed Supports
- Install gutter wall connectors to the top of each support. This is so you can install the roof assembly securely on top of the wall panels.
- The side walls of the shed should have predrilled holes to screw the shelf supports.
- Install the supports on both sides of the window panels.
- The back wall should have three shelf supports. Attach the left and right supports in the same manner as the side wall supports.
- Attach an extender before installing the center support so it can rise above the back wall.
Install Roof Frame
- The roof frame is made of two joined trusses. Assemble them as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Tie them together with roof supports, creating a single frame.
- Place it into position on top of the side walls. Attach the skylight on top of the roof frame.
- Hold it in place while you attach the frame to the gutter connectors installed earlier with hex bolts.
Attach Gables and Make the Roof
- To attach the gables, just snap all of the pieces together.
- Insert the center part of the back wall into the hole in the gable. Then position the gable on top of the back wall.
- Attach the front gable to the top part of the two wall panels on either side of the door space.
- Place the skylight over the peaks of both gables.
- Use plastic screws to secure the gables to the wall.
- Install left and right roof supports to stabilize the structure.
- Slide the roof panels into the roof support tracks. Snap them into position on the skylight. Repeat for each roof panel.
Attach Doors
- Snap the door hinges into place in the door opening and tighten with screws.
- Connect the handles with screws after you align them appropriately.
- Attach the doors to the hinges installed on the shed frame.
- The door latches should be attached to the inside of each door at the top and bottom edges.
- Double check the doors to make sure they function correctly.
Add Accessories to Finish the Look
To optimize your resin storage shed, add accessories that can help you store your tools neatly. The more organized your storage shed looks, the easier it will be to find what you need at the right time.
Shelves
Shelving units can maximize the space in your shed and create easy to access storage areas. If shelves are already not included in your resin storage shed kit, adding them yourself is an excellent idea.
Vents
Ventilation is essential to prevent moisture, mold and mildew buildup. Install vents on your wall or roof for added ventilation and to release trapped hot air.
LED Lights
If you spend a lot of time in the shed working on DIY projects, you will need LED lights for better visibility and for a comfortable working environment.
