You might need a ladder to access the wall above the window. Ask someone to hold the ladder while you work on it. Place the roman shade on the window following these measurements:
-
Height: The roman shade must extend 1 ½ inches above and 1 ½ inches below the window casing. Use a measuring tape and pencil to mark the top and bottom positions.
-
Width: Adjust the roman shade right in the middle of the window frame. Make sure it extends 1 ½ inches on each side of the window’s width. Mark this position on the wall area above the window casing with a pencil.
Once the roman is properly positioned, use a pencil to mark this finalized mounting point on the wall. This is where the headrail will be installed. Also, mark the positions of the brackets at the two extreme ends of the headrail. These marks should align with the brackets' mounting holes. Make sure to mark the drill hole locations within the top corners of the shade's measured width.
If you are installing heavy and wider roman shades, you will receive a center support bracket. Align it at the very center of the roman shade’s headrail and mark the point with a pencil. Remove the roman shade and keep it aside. Take a level and check that the marked drill holes are aligned perfectly.
