How to Install Faux Wood Beams

Determine where the faux beams will be most effective regarding the room layout. The laser level marks layout lines on the ceiling with the same distance between each line.

This will tell you how and where to place the beams. Ensure that the lines are straight and parallel along its entire length. Separate the lines far enough from one another to accommodate the beam width. Ensure that the end of the lines touches the stud marks perfectly. 

Now, it’s time to mark the beam lengths as indicated by your layout lines on your structure to ensure you get the right measurement. To carry out this process, the faux wood beams must be cut to the required length using a hacksaw. 

Saw the beam ends square across at right angles to ensure they sit properly on the ceiling. Sand any rough edges. Trim all beams to uniform sizes This is because all beams are expected to be of the same exact size to enhance the structure’s stability.

Properly fasten vertical supports on each stud mark before installing beams. Short wood strips, L brackets or metal plates are recommended.

Secure the studs with construction screws. Place these supports on the lines of your beam layout. Ensure that supports align accurately where the beams will rest.

Apply a wide line of construction adhesive on the back side across the length of the beam. Spread the adhesive in a zigzag manner.

Press it into place between the layout lines, starting with one of the adhesive-covered beams at a time. Apply firm, even pressure. The beam ends should rest on the ceiling and sit snugly against the vertical end supports it may have.

This adhesive will set and become rigid within 24 hours, providing a strong bond. Temporary braces can hold the beams until the adhesive is fully set and cured.

When two beams are placed side by side, they must be connected by metal plates or brackets with artistic designs. Fix with finishing nails or screws.

This binds the whole beam assembly and reduces the chances of sagging. Use all joints in this way to achieve maximum stability. 

Conceal lights, vents, etc., within the look of faux beams. The fixtures should be fitted inside beams, which can be done by cutting the beam ends to fit the fixtures.

Place additional wood trim pieces parallel to the beams in the same grain direction as the beams.

You should stain, prime or paint the faux beams to match the color of the furniture and other items in the room. For an aged look, add distress marks.

Faux beams are made of p​​olyurethane material. It helps to give the beams a natural wooden look. The material further ensures the faux beams do not fade in the long run.
