Tips to Clean the Lamp Base

Now that you know how to clean a lampshade, you must also know how to clean a lamp base. Lamp bases house the electrical components, such as the wiring and the bulb socket, as well as the power switch. Some lamps may also hold additional outlets based on their design. Most lamp bases are made of brass, steel, plastic or ceramic. Plastic bases are easier to clean than metal bases, which may require extra effort.

How To Clean a Lamp Base:

  1. Make sure that the lamp is unplugged and the switch is turned off.
  2. Use a dry, soft cloth and clean any dust or debris off the lamp base, top to bottom.
  3. You may use a gentle dishwashing liquid to clean the base, but be careful not to let moisture in the electrical components.
  4. Thoroughly dry the base with a cloth.

Good to Know

Metal lamp bases are often covered with a special paint coat to avoid rusting. If you use a harsh chemical solution to clean the base, it may remove the protective coating and ruin its elegant look.

Polish if Necessary:

For metal lamp bases, consider a suitable polish designed for your lamp material to maintain shine and finish.
