Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQs related to cleaning a shower curtain.

How Often Should You Clean Your Shower Curtain Liner?

So how often should you clean your shower curtain liner? This will ultimately depend on use. But on average, you should clean your liner at least once every month to prevent mold and mildew from accumulating. If you notice that your curtain tends to mold sooner than that, trying cleaning it every two to three weeks. This may also be a good idea if you have a large household, which means the shower gets used more often.

How Do You Remove Mold from Your Shower Curtain Liner?

The easiest way to rid your shower curtain liner of mold and mildew is to put it in your washing machine using the instructions above. After washing, however, you should always hang a plastic liner or curtain up so it can air dry. Never put plastic in the dryer.

How Can You Prevent Mold from Growing on Your Shower Curtain Liner?

You can prevent mold from growing on your shower curtain liner by spraying it after each use with a solution of white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide diluted with water. If you use hydrogen peroxide, however, keep in mind that it will bleach fabric over time, so be careful not to get it on a cloth curtain. You can also use a commercially available daily shower cleaner to help prevent mold and purchase a shower curtain liner made of a mold-resistant material such as polyethylene vinyl acetate (PEVA).
