The Best Way to Clean a Microwave

If food remnants or splatters dry in your microwave, they can be hard to remove. Keep your microwave looking clean and fresh by wiping it down once a week or whenever you see splatters.

What’s the Easiest Way to Clean a Microwave?

There are several easy ways to clean a microwave, most of which require items you may already have in your home. You can clean a microwave with vinegar or citrus fruit and water. You can also create steam in your microwave by heating water in a microwave-safe bowl. The steam can help soften dry or crusty food stuck to the inside of your microwave, making it easier to remove. For minimal food remnants, you can also wipe down your microwave with a mixture of vinegar and water using a soft cloth or paper towel.

How Do You Disinfect a Microwave?

You can disinfect the outside of your microwave with multipurpose cleaners or wipes, but it’s best not to use them on the inside of the microwave because they can leave a chemical residue. To disinfect the inside of the microwave, heat up a bowl of water with some citrus fruit slices or vinegar until the liquid boils and creates steam in the microwave.

Caution

Be careful when removing the bowl of water from the microwave. It’s best to let it cool for a while before you scrub.
Check the manufacturer’s recommendations on the labels of any cleaners or wipes to make sure they won’t damage the exterior or keypad of the microwave.

Can You Clean a Microwave With Baking Soda?

Baking soda is great for cleaning a dirty microwave. You can create a paste with baking soda and water and use it to scrub away food residue. Sprinkle some baking soda on a sponge for extra abrasion.
