Types of Floor Tile
At Lowe’s, we have an endless selection of tile in different sizes, materials, textures and colors. Before choosing the right one for you, consider the room. If you’re installing tile in a kitchen, opt for options that will still stand up to high foot traffic and moisture, like ceramic tile flooring. Ceramic tile is a great choice as it’s extremely durable and will stand up to almost any spill if properly grouted. Other popular kitchen floor tile options include natural stone and porcelain.
When choosing bathroom floor tile, porcelain is the best choice overall as it’s waterproof, stylish and economical. Ceramic tile is another good option, but when it comes to water absorption rate, porcelain simply performs better.
How to Prepare a Floor for Tile
The most important part of tile floor installation is the prep work. If done incorrectly, the floor could crack, buckle and become uneven. Before you start installation, make sure you’re using the correct trowel size and mortar type. For larger tile sizes, you’ll want to use a large-notched trowel. Simplify Tiling With Peel-and-Stick Tile
Peel-and-stick tile is used often for projects like wall tiling and backsplashes. But these self-adhesive tiles can be used for flooring applications, too. Peel-and-stick floor tile is easier to install compared to traditional tile as it doesn’t require any grout or special tools. It’s also highly water resistant and washable. It’s important to properly prep your floor for peel-and-stick tile as even small debris can interfere with its ability to adhere to the floor. One thing to keep in mind: Peel-and-stick tile can adhere to painted concrete or wood if clean, but not waxed floors.
