Build the Basic Desk
Each of the three easy-to-make workstations is created with purchased table legs, an apron front, and a 42-inch laminate top on medium-density fiberboard. We painted this desk in Valspar Signature Cracked Pepper (#CI 57) and added a laminate counter (#505976). A wall stripe painted in Valspar Signature Rocky Bluffs (#4003-1C) divides the lower wall in Semi-Sweet (#4003-2C) from the upper wall in Stone Mason Gray (#4008-1C).
Inside of the door of a roomy white stock kitchen cabinet (#58039), a dry-erase board (#500) keeps family business on track. Paint and glue cork tiles (#33530) inside the cabinet door for notes.
Spin this turntable (#412173) to find small items inside the cabinet. A clear toothbrush holder (#97041) keeps writing tools handy.
Use a chrome pot-lid organizer (#278829) as a file rack.
A laminate counter (#239103, model D354-60) tops a painted and distressed desk. Valspar Signature Blue Vault (#4006-5C) was topped with untinted white, then distressed with sandpaper. Chalkboard paint in Grass Stain (#CI 243) makes wall notes easy. A hanging pendant (#339594) and LED desk lamp (#62582) provide lighting. Above the desk, bracketless shelves (#307248, #307258, #307495) reinforce each other for open storage. Wrapping paper remains neat inside PVC couplings (#22733).
Connected pieces of PVC pipe (#23838) cut to the depth of the shelves are spray-painted white and hung on the wall to form crafting cubbies.
On a Roll
This trick organizes paper rolls so easily you’ll look for other ways to use it. Store wrapping paper neatly inside a 3-inch PVC coupling (#22733) attached to the wall. It’s easy to see what you have, and the rolls quickly slide in and out.
Untangle the Twine
A satin nickel toilet paper holder (#321478) stylishly keeps string and ribbon at the ready -- instead of tangled at the bottom of a drawer or box.
Keep paintbrushes and water at your fingertips with a craft supplies holder made from a beer-can chicken rack (#269443) and a toothbrush tumbler (#297815). Paint the base to complement your color palette.
A stone-look laminate counter (#351868) tops a dark-stained desk. Turn a bath cabinet (#28654) into a jewelry cabinet by adding a stained-to-match backboard and corbels (#225705). Accompanied by allen + roth™ wallpaper (#LW1340706), a drum pendant (#394660), and an allen + roth™ vanity mirror (#328044), this desk works in any space.
Add an assortment of knobs and hardware (#362283, 361982, #243065, #270179, and #245157) between the cabinet corbels to hang jewelry.
Wall cubbies (#183475) become shelves for holding small decorative items.
Brush Up on Storage
A toothbrush holder (#327923) keeps makeup brushes organized.
