What Customers Are Saying
The product offers a mix of positive and negative feedback. Some users praise its quality, durability, and features like the quick-release function and smooth operation. However, a significant number report issues with the ratchet's reliability and longevity, such as it breaking, locking up, or reversing direction unexpectedly during use. The ratchet may not be suitable for professional or heavy-duty applications.

I had the same issue as everyone else. The reverse/forward lever broke. They do not make this rachet anymore. The replacement they give is not the same shape. This mattered to me because this came in a big molded tool box and the new one would not fit. So, I did some research and found out that the Duratech DTMTQRR3890AH has the same internal parts. So I purchased one and took out the internal parts and put it into the Kobalt one and now it works and fits into the tool box molded spot for it.
Would recommend to anyone
I remember getting ratchet sets where they had the hole in the middle of the ratchet so that you could go over a long bolt without needing a deep socket! I got some of these kits on sale for like $12.99 which came with metric and SAE sockets, it's like the smallest kids you can buy but I still have these kits and they still work in they're going on 12 years old. And the case has held up for 12 years there closing mechanism on the box has held up and it's amazing. I haven't looked at the new one...

Excellent quality tool
As one who has worked with various sizes and brands of socket ratchets over the years, in all kinds of settings, I have to say that this ratchet is the most solid, and substantial I’ve ever worked with. Add to that the high-quality stainless finish and you have a very impressive tool. Features that are noteworthy are the quick-release function, the smoothness of operation, and the torx bolts that enable replacement of internal components that might malfunction in the future (making it unnece...
Unreliable direction switch
These ratchets are definitely a mixed bag. They have good points, but I'll lead off with the bad: the direction switch is sloppy, and is easily moved while wrenching. This will cause the tool to lock up, and sometimes even reverse on its own. And before a Kobalt rep leaves a comment about how they had a "bad run of ratchets that did this, and they corrected the problem" I already replaced my original (manufactured in August of 2017) with a new one that was made in March 2018, with little imp...
Direction switch disengages!
I was loving the idea of this 3/8 ratchet as well as the 1/4 and 1/2 sizes I got in a kit a while back. Let me tell you, I would not buy these ratchets if you are a technician or mechanic, let alone a hobbyist. I'm complaining about my busted $30 ratchet more than turning it. My HyperTough ratchet is an old school round head with dial switch and it's still grinning. Count me out of this brand and the return policy is freaking pathetic. Your mileage will vary but this technician is moving along...
Good solid ratchet
Got this to try out and I can say it’s a really good solid ratchet. You don’t expect much from these, so they need to do the job well. I put this up against my old trusty Cra-man I’ve had for 15 years. The weight is good, the handle feels better on this one, especially when having to give it that extra oomph. The extra teeth are really nice in tight spaces like under the hood and that’s something my older one didn’t have. I’ve had to scrounge around or buy an extension before when there just was...
Worst ratchets ever
1/4 inch drive, 3/8 and 1/2 all have the same problem. One small touch of the lever that controls the direction and they all lock up. I already swapped them once at Lowes and it was a pain. You can be working in a tight spot and only able to use one hand, so your palm is pressing hard on the flat surface of the ratchet. If you touch that lever at all, it locks up. Such a pain. Going to stick with snap on or craftsman.
Rachet broke in middle of job
I have bought various kobalt socket kits with ratchets. 1/4" ratchet didn't ratchet right out of the box. Now it's 5 A.m. in the middle of a job and 1/2" ratcheting mechanism stopped working. Now it's useless. I HAVE to have a ratchet due to confined space. If you are a pro who depends on your tools don't purchase kobalt. Harbor freight ratchets are more dependable, also cheaper!???
Kolbalttools.com
I went to Lowe’s to replace my ratchet due to a failed spring inside. Lowe’s DID NOT HELP ME because I didn’t have a receipt for my 5yr old ratchet. I use my kolbalt tools for work I’m a mechanic so they need to work hard like myself. I contacted kolbalt directly they said they can send me repair kit for it if it was in stock I said that be great a left it alone five days later kolbalt sent me a new ratchet instead I’m very pleased with kolbalts customer service for the lifetime HASSLE FREE WARR...
Very compact and the gears are smooth.
I am a contractor and also work with automobile repairs, appliance repairs, and crafts! Wratchets serve as a versatile go to tool to simplify the task at hand. I have several in different locations, but, at the cost, adding one more would act as a benefit. Easy to use.
