Full disclaimer this is the first Japanese style saw I have purchased and used. With that said it is much easier to use than its western counter parts and lends itself to a whole host of different uses. It is much more flexible in use, has a pleasant ping sound when you tap it, and is sharp enough to cut through a 2inch thick and 18 in wide Black Locust live edge slab. Not like my older marples

Someone stole my old marples tool that looked a lot like this model. Same color but I was sad to see they didn't have the removable blade that makes this such a convenient tool, but decided to try it anyway. I had always been good at getting those perfect right angles with a Japanese style saw and after several hours of trying to familiarize myself with cutting with this one I pulled out a Caliper and found that it doesn't even have the extra thickness this type of saw is most known. Works great, doesn't like metal ...

I have one of these saws that I've been using off and on for a year or so now. It worked great right up until I hit a nail hiding in the workpiece I was cutting. I suspect that if that hadn't happened, I'd still be using it now. I'm probably going to upgrade to a nicer saw now, but this one worked well enough to get me started and held up fine to normal use. I'd have no qualms about buying another one should the need arise and I would definitely recommend it as a basic workhorse pull saw.

It's a great saw - When used properly!

First realize two key things - It is a PULL saw designed to cut only on the pull - And secondly because it is a pull saw the blade is VERY thin. If you push fast and hard and try to cut at all as most are used too you can kink the blade - Let the saw do the work and you'll have beautiful clean cuts with tiny kerfs! For those that complain no replacement blades are available - It's $20! Buy a new one every year! ;)

You can't replace the blade!

Irwin made a great little pull saw with a push button blade release which a normal person would imagine is for the purpose of replacing the blade. But wrong. You can't replace the blade. You have to buy a whole new saw. It's so dumb. While this saw works well, I'd never have bought it if I'd known this. Buying something else. And frankly, Lowes shouldn't be selling products that are misleading and trash filling single blade use tools.

Good cutting, but too flexible.

I've been using this saw for a couple weeks and found that it does cut well, but the blade is too flexible, making it difficult to control, especially when starting a cut, where the blade jumps across the wood edge. Although the saw cuts well, I would not recommend it for fine work. If the saw blade was a bit more rigid, it would create less drag when pulling the saw and improve the chances of getting a clean start at making a kerf.

a better way to saw

I’ve got 3 American push saws and I started hearing people talk about these Japanese-style pull saws. I friggin love them! They have a super thin kerf and tear through wood and it’s way easier pulling than pushing through. This thing makes a super fine cut, too. I’m now a firm believer in this style of saw and this is the first piece to my collection.

great price on a decent pull saw

comparable to Japanese models sold in the USA that are often harder to find. at first I didn't like the handle because it feels plasticy but I like that it's lightweight and that the handle comes off for storage and maybe blade replacement or make your own cool handle. the lock up seems good and I would recommend this over most push saws.

Always wanted one - now I have it

I have seen this type of saw used in fine wood working before and had never had a reason to purchase one. On a recent project making doors I had need of a really fine saw, so I finally had an excuse to add one to my tool box. I was not disappointed. Very nice! Did exactly what I needed it to do!

Irreplaceable for certian situations

THis saw has been a wonderful addition. I have used it on laminate counters cutting close to backsplash where other saws wont fit. Cutting PVC pipe, trimming close to edges even slicing through a 2x4 wuth ease. The fine teeth dont clog up. Cuts fast and straight. Very sharp.
