What Customers Are Saying
The impact driver has a stiff chassis, great trigger torque, and impressive power that can handle a variety of tasks. The battery life is excellent, with the 6.0Ah battery lasting for hours of use. However, the chuck design is criticized as not being very secure, with bits and driver tips frequently falling out. The quick-change hex shank holder is also reported to be difficult to operate. Some users found the tool underpowered for heavier tasks. Overall, the impact driver is a capable and versatile tool, but has room for improvement in the chuck and bit retention mechanisms.

I purchased this driver and the matching hammer drill, early 2020 to replace all of my old, heavy Ni-Cad cordless power tools. It is now January 2026 and I do not have one single complaint. I suppose that some folks have gotten a bad tool, as that will happen with any brand, from any store. In my case, I also own the same line of Bosch 18V, oscillator, grinder and smaller circular saw. No issues with any of them at all. I use all of these for multiple house and rental home projects, working on v...
Excellent concept, room to improve but efficient
I've had this GDX-1800 for a few years now and it typically travels with me in the vehicle and has handled every task I've put her up to, including moderate repairs on my vehicle and others, drilling/driving fasteners, etc. Admittedly I have not tried using her for heavy tasks; I understand and respect the limitations of this tool and have my expectations set accordingly. I'm a huge fan of the engineering behind this tool, it is an average driver and average impact wrench but combined is a neat ...

hex bit gets stuck easily
There's a common issue with the release ring of this impact driver, hex bit can easily get stuck and you can no longer release the bit, which might be a design issue. Google it and you will find lots of complains. I rarely uses it as it serves as back up impact driver/wrench. It's only less than 1 year and only been used a handful times, then it got stuck and become unusable. Sending it to warranty repair, lets see what happens.

Great tool, uses bits with longer hex shank
I love this tool. Very powerful! For those who are having issues with bits falling out, I'm here with the solution. The hex portion of the bit needs to be long enough to seat properly in the driver head. Because of the 1/2 driver portion of the tool, hex bits need to extend more deeply than other drivers. I have included pictures below that illustrate this. If you have an investment in bits you want to use, then I suggest an adaptor until you aquire bits that fit natively. Again, see the ...

Delivery of used merchandise
I am very disappointed that I was sold used merchandise at full retail price. I was immediately suspicious when the boc arrived with tape. upon opening the box, it's clear that this tool was used and returned, then sold to me. Once I have a replacement tool that I can use, I will update the review
Small package, big power
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had the Bosch IDH182 “Freak” impact for about two years, and have used it on a variety of different projects and under a range of different working circumstances. So when I was given the opportunity to test out the newer GDX18V-1800 model, I was really excited to compare the two and see what kinds of improvements and alterations Bosch has made. The first thing I noticed right away is the obvious physical differences between the two im...

No torque, stopped working after light use
Maybe I received a defective tool. I was except to try it out since i do a mix of woodworking and light mechanic work, so having the option to attach half inch sockets directly was very appealing. However, there is little to no torque with this impact driver. i can hold the socket firmly in my hand and squeeze the trigger and it won't even remotely turn. A year after purchasing it, bits stopped turning altogether. you can hear the motor going, but the bits won't engage with the motor. i'm afraid...

Great tool, well designed.
I bought this tool mainly because it was compatible with the battery on my Bosch driver/drill and I already had 2 batteries for that one. They charger which came with the impact driver is also compatible. I've really enjoyed my driver/drill unit so I knew the new impact driver should also be good. I've used the impact driver at a church building we were remodeling and its worked quite well. I also like the chuck head which accepts a square socket as well as impact driver bits. The grip fit...
