What Customers Are Saying

Customers overwhelmingly praise this shellac-based primer for exceptional stain-blocking performance, reliably sealing water damage, smoke residue, pet odors, tannin bleed, and nicotine discoloration in one coat. Reviewers highlight superior coverage on challenging surfaces including drywall paper, veneer, knotty pine, and cabinets without bubbling or peeling. Many note fast drying times enabling same-day recoating and strong adhesion across paint types. A few mention strong odor requiring ventilation and thin consistency needing careful application. Always my top choice

Would Recommend

I will always default to BIN shellac primer. It goes on so well, with rollers and with a sprayer, and I’ve never had an issue with it peeling off laminate. I used it to install bookshelves in my library and after two years of wear and tear there are no spots where the paint is chipping. We also didn’t sand any of the bookshelves because we trust this product so much. To be fair, we don’t have kids and our pets don’t destroy things, so maybe sand and use a top coat if you’re worried about that. I...

One Coat, No Sand Wonder

Would Recommend

We just did our basement and used the Zinzer BIN Shellac Primer and it worked super well!! It does smell, you must wear a mask and open some windows. One coat of primer rolled, and two coats of paint covered it right up. The shellac was more expensive than the oil primer, but I think it smelled a bit less bad and only required one coat, so less work and less paint. We didn't sand, just wiped down the walls with a damp rag. Our paneling was quite thin and had a shiny surface. We'd tried to paint...

Seems to do its job as primer and knot hole cover.

Would Recommend

I used it to prepare PVC trim and breadboard before painting and I also used it cover some stubborn knotholes in some of my house trim. It seems to work as primer on PVC and a couple knotholes needed a second coat but they look promising.

Had a water stain on my ceiling. This covered it up perfectly and a fresh coat of paint. Awesome! So glad it works.

Good stain blocker

Would Recommend

I’ve been repainting cabinets that are very old, have been painted a lot previously, and have stains that won’t sand or wash out, this has helped to cover them.

“Once you go shellack, you won’t go back”

Would Recommend

Interesting to note that this product works and is the ONLY true primer I have found that actually seals knots preventing tannin bleeds! However, YOU USE DENATURED ALCOHOL for clean up. Either use a throw away foam brush OR buy “Fuel” labeled in Klein Strip product assortment This fuel is only available in the store and not even posted online. CA has outlawed the product. Alkaline ammonia also can do the job but it is not as efficient if you’re using a brush. In others words, no liberal sp...

No Sanding on Dark Java Stain...Really!

Would Recommend

Just finished my dark Java stained staircase. Thought I would try the shellac primer since I did not want to sand the entire stair area. 2-3 coats of these primer (No Sanding) and the dark stained was gone...ready for paint. Awesome Primer indeed!

Best primer money can buy!

Would Recommend

Be careful primer is a little thine but will cover up knots in plywood or pine wood…eliminates bleed through.

Zin Bin's the Bomb !

Would Recommend

This product covered my old dark brown smoke stained paneling from the sixties in one coat. I applied two coats of good quality white paint on top and no brown showed thru at all. I really didn't have to put a second coat but I always do whe changing colors. I did the living room first using Kilz 2 and ended up having to use numerous coats of paint. I'll never do that again ! I'm not getting paid for this info. Zin Bin is the bomb !
