Its a steel brush. It brushed paint off a cinder block wall as well as could be expected, and I didn’t scrape my knuckles.

Great brush
Would RecommendMy husband loves this brush. I was expecting the "older" kind with a wooden handle, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this one.

Rust
Would RecommendThe brush works great to help keep your good paint brushes clean so they can be reused. However they really only can be used for one project because they rust. Using the wire brush for other projects that don't involve contact with water may have better and more long-lasting results, however that is not how we have used them.
