Rubber is not solid, but actually is chunks of rubber fused to a mesh material, which in time will not keep any weeds out. Also the hole in the middle is too small for most trees. If you cut the hole to make it a larger hole, the mat will no longer lay flat or won’t be large enough to cover the full circle. You are better off using actual wood mulch.
