Because a 500 foot roll that is 1/2 or .5 inch ID will hold just 5 gallons of water but a tube that is .620 will hold over 7 gallons. That's a significant difference and important to those who need to know. What you've done here is equivalent to turning in your 3rd grade math assignment but not showing the teacher how you arrived at the answer. You can't get an "A" for that.
