Would RecommendThis thing is perfect now it looks like peanut butter, but it dries on really fast and it definitely helps any kind of areas you need to fill-in for wood it works. You could sand it down and you can paint right over it.

Would RecommendWood filler does a fantastic job at basic wood repair. I use this to patch up holes in wood and cover scratches on trim. A little bit can go a long way. Sanding is a snap with some 320 sandpaper and this product paints and stains decently. I would color match to your job as close as possible if staining
