Ratings & Reviews for Kobalt 189 -Piece Standard (SAE) and Metric Mechanics Tool Set with Hard Case
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise the comprehensive range of SAE and metric sockets, crisp ratchet action, push-button socket release, and magnetized bit holders. Color-coded bands and laser-etched sizing reduce errors, while most find the set contains nearly every socket needed for common repairs. However, many report serious frustrations with case durability—drawers jam or fall out, hinges break, handles detach, and cases crack upon use. Despite excellent tool quality, the fragile case undermines overall utility for transport and storage. Most customers agree the tools themselves are exceptional value, though the case design remains a significant drawback.

I am not sure who designed this kit. I bought a 170 piece kit but it doesn't come with 15-18mm sockets. Someone should revisit this kit and make some changes.

Hate the case
Would Not RecommendTools are fine , but the carrying case makes me curse every time I use this set of tools. The hinges constantly come slide out of the slot they are in and are an exercise in patience and aggravation to get back together.

Don’t understand why you’re missing two sockets
Would Not RecommendThe reason I wouldn’t recommend it is because you skipped over the metric you go from 16 and you start back at 19 so you skipped over 17 and 18 in metric socket. I don’t understand why you would do that now I gotta go to another tool set. Find the two missing ones that’s not in your product.
Cheap case
Would Not RecommendArrived broken. The hinge design is clearly very cheap.

Room for improvement
Would RecommendBought this set to keep in our camper cause of the wide selection of tools. First time I went to use it I find it doesn't have a 3/4" socket which is a very common size. Would have given it a higher rating if it had all the sizes.
