Ratings & Reviews for Kobalt Universal 38 -Piece Standard (SAE) and Metric Mechanics Tool Set with Hard Case

What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise the universal sockets for accommodating multiple fastener types in one piece, with many highlighting comprehensive SAE and metric coverage as a major advantage. Most describe the tools as well-made and solid, noting excellent value. However, a significant group reports persistent ratchet problems—the mechanism locks up under load and becomes unusable, requiring secondary tools to unlock. Some mention wrench sticking issues as well. Despite these reliability concerns with specific components, most customers consider the socket design innovative enough to recommend the set for travel, RVs, or as a starter kit.

Would Not RecommendThese are the worst sockets you can buy. The sizing is terrible and you end up rounding off a lot of bolts. Spend your money on a good set of 6 point sockets.

Perfect set for many jobs!
Would RecommendIt’s everything I needed and more, especially with the Universal Sockets. Those alone become more versatile than a single type socket set.!

Easy to read markings and several different uses.
Would RecommendLove the fact you can use it on several types of heads.
Poorly copied Me-Too product
Would Not RecommendThe bits in the bit sets that are in plastic holders do not have holes to push the bits out from the other side. They have very little purchase and you almost have to use pliers to pull them out. The Allen wrenches come in loose bags instead of plastic holders that lock into place (unlike other more quality brands) and they are always falling out when you open the box. The screw driver has a fixed hex socket instead of it being removable (unlike most sets) and this is inconvenient when you want...

Costs more than you think
Would RecommendI really like the set, but the first job I need it for required a 15mm... guess what - not included in the set. The next job required a 12mm... guess what - not included in the set. So, I ordered them - around $8.50 EACH. So for an additional $17 or so, you can have a full set that started out at about $30. That's a cheap, dirty trick there Lowe's. You should throw in the other two and maybe charge a little more for the set or drop the smallest ones in SAE and metric and include the 12 & ...
Good product; useful.
The product came in handy. I use the sockets all the time. The only thing I am concerned with is, that when the case was open; some of the sockets looked used or may habe been a returned setm

Universal redo
Would Not RecommendThought I would like the universal set but I found that the sockets didn’t grab like the standard ones. Was loosing up a 5/16” bolts and it slipped way to easy. All the other ones backed off just fine. Placed the same size nut driver on the head and with a little torque it freed up with no problem. Other buyers in my area have experience the same thing with this set. Over all the look is perfect. Take the same design and make it into a high torque set and you’ll have a winner. The Craftsman gunm...

Don’t waist your money! Ratchet doesn’t work
Would Not RecommendCan’t use the set because the ratchet doesn’t work and stays locked up.

Very bad wrench, but good socket set.
Would Not RecommendThe wrench is absolutely horrible and binds up almost every time it is used. The sockets are very nice though. I will be buying a better wrench and tossing the one this came with. Wish I had done a bit more research before buying this, but it was an impulse buy in-store since I didn't own a socket wrench at the time and this set "looked" nice.
Nice tool set
Would RecommendCouldn't ask for something easier or nicer. Got the kit on sale and think this much better than my 10 year old Craftsman set.
