This is a must have tool when working on AC voltage items. The plastic tip allows non metal contact in electrical outlets and other items like lamps, pump electrical contact, etc. After turing off circuit breaker for the item in question, double check with this tool. If the red light comes on there is electrical current present. Could be feed from a different location. I have used one of these for years. Should be more sensitive
It doesn't seem to be as sensitive as my old one, The old one would alert right though the wires jacket, The new one needs direct contact with the copper, That makes it harder and a longer process to find live wires
