Ratings & Reviews for Hillman 1/4-in x 20 Steel Cast zinc Wood insert Nut 4 Count
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Most customers find these threaded inserts work well for creating reusable connections in soft woods, particle board, and plywood, praising smooth threads and reliable anchor points. However, many report the metal strips or breaks easily during installation in hardwoods like oak or cherry, with hex recesses failing under minimal torque. Some note inconsistent performance even within batches, and a few mention lack of clear installation guidance. Despite material durability concerns, most users who follow proper technique in compatible materials consider them effective and worthwhile for furniture assembly and hardware applications.

Great price for something I really needed.
Would RecommendI’m so glad I Lowe’s had these, saved me a lot of trouble.

Good buy, but be careful installing
Would RecommendEasy to use, very sturdy. But the hex point used to screw it in can easily crack and make it difficult to fully install. But overall a good product.

Carefully check the size hole you drill.
Test you drill hole! There was no guidance on the size of hole the collar should be inserted into. The size I chose initially was just a tad tight and when I used the hex wrench to screw this collar into the wood the hex end cracked before it was fully screwed in. I used a reverse bit to backout the entire collar (and tossed it away). Next drilled the next larger size drill to enlarge the hole and it went on ok this time.

Wood inserts
Would RecommendThis is a soft metal and using a hex key I stripped 2 out of four, so I threaded in a 1/4 20 bolt and turned it in that way. That’s why I gave it a 4 rating. Other than that glitch, they work just as they should.
